Why Join Farm Bureau?

Agriculture is the economic driver of Monterey County and your membership supports our heritage as land stewards of one of the most productive areas of the world.  Indeed, we feed the world!

Being part of the Farm Bureau means adding to the combined strength of a membership that includes over 31,000 farmers, ranchers, and familites throughout the state.  Together, we work tirelessly to advocate and protect the future and quality of life for all Monterey County farmers and ranchers.

We’re There for You: Farm Bureau is protecting Salinas Valley Water Rights against the possible impacts from sustainable groundwater management plans.  As these plans develop implementation practices and potential water projects, such as Salinas River channel maintenance and CSIP optimization and expansion, working lands must be prioritized for future food production.  Farm Bureau continues to work on potential desalination projects that will provide alternative municipal water sources, reducing demand on groundwater extractions.

We’re There for You: Adopted in April 2021, the Irrigated Lands Regulatory Program (Ag Order 4.0) places onerous requirements on both small and large farms, organic and conventional.  Farm Bureau participates (with Ag Partners) in the petition of appeal to the State Water Board, emphasizing that a cooperative monitoring program and research into technology will quantify the benefits of on-farm practices already in use for both surface and groundwater.  Farm Bureau continues to work on a regional solution for nitrates in groundwater that does not include specific, numerical nitrogen application limitations by crop or acreage.  Groundwater is now a major focus of legislators and regulators, and we work to protect your right to continue farming using groundwater resources and current farming practices that protect water quality.

We advocate for additional farm advisors to help with pest and disease control research, work with local communities on illegal dumping in farm fields, wildfire response and disaster recovery, wildlife management adjacent to productive lands, and healthy soils initiatives.

There are many reasons to join Farm Bureau membership, beyond what is listed above, as there are many other benefits of membership that add value to your investment in the local Agricultural community.  You can earn back your investment through use of your Ford vehicle discount, Grainger supplies discount, and other discount programs offered only to Farm Bureau members.  Check out our membership benefits here!
